RAPCENTRAL REVIEW:
In 2002, South Side hip-hop was clearly in a better position than it is now in 2008. The beef between chamillionaire and paul wall is probably the most
disastorous thing to happen to the south in a long time, although Chamillionaire has gone on to have a very successful solo career - a part of us
chamillionaire fans surely want the days of candy paint and true BALLIN back like it was when Chamillionaire was in his prime. The album 'Get Ya Mind
Correct' is still to this day my favourite Chamillionaire album, and i still play it almost daily ! it's been on my play list for atleast 2 years
and i imagine it will stay there for a few more... so why did i like this album so much ?
Generally, i liked the feel of this album. There are alot of albums out there that tend to be half full of tracks that just aim to fill and nothing else,
these albums are rarely well put together and with a constant theme throughout. So what is the theme of this album ? what else.... money ! although i have
been critical of rappers who rap about nothing but money and cars all day when its combined with some awesome beats and some equally skilful verses
then how could you not like it ? well afterall... its a step up from Soulja Boy, right ? (that was a rheatorical question Abilitee).
More about the tracks themselves then, alot of what i liked about this album was the friendship and teamwork between the two rappers that gives the album
the best of both rappers combined into one theme, rather than having a song start with one rapper then have another rapper talking about something
completely different in the next, a trap which alot of rappers have fallen into. It also goes well because Paul Wall and Chamillionaire are generally
very equal in rhyming ability throughout the album. Listen to the song ''Thinkin Throwed'' and you will see what i mean.
So what of my favourite songs on this album ? 'Don't be Afraid' is a great song, combined with a great beat and a great hook from both Heather Nicole and
of course Chamillionaire, the song blends well. The song focuses on the two rappers (chamillionaire and paul wall) romancing (and yes, ultimately bedding)
a fictional woman (Heather Nicole). The next favourite song would have to be 'Balla Talk 2'', for no other reason simply that it's an awesome track
with a great beat and of course a skillful verse from both rappers which ultimately combines the mainstream elements of hip-hop with the underground
style of Paul and Chamillionaire.
There isn't alot i can say thats bad about this album. But, if you are looking for an album full of political and social commentary like Chamillionaire's
latest release then i wouldn't reccomend it to you. This album is great simply because it sounds good - this album has one use and one use only....
to let everybody in a 5 block radius hear that you BALLIN ! HOUSTON TEXAS !
