1) Johnny J
Johnny "J", real name Johnny Jackson, was born in Waters, Mexico, and raised in South Central Los Angeles. The producers first hit song was Canyman's 90/91 hit "Knocking Boots". However, he is most known for his work with Tupac Shakur.
Johnny J and 2pac hooked up around 1992 through Big Syke. 'Pac was filming "Poetic Justice" and was in the process of forming the group "Thug Life" in which Big Syke was to become a member. Johnny J was producing Big Sykes independant solo album, and 2pac asked Syke to hook them up. The first track that Johnny J produced for 2pac was the title track of the album, "Thug Life".
Johnny J told HitEmUp.com:
"I did like 7 cuts in like 3 days. So we just started dumping them, that's where Pour Out a Little Liquor came from, Death around the Corner. Originally those songs were supposed to be on Thug Life, but then they were going on Poetic Justice but we ended up swinging that stuff to Above the Rim. Pour Out a Little Liquor became the first cut that me and Pac did, that was like you know, the debut of our relationship getting started."
With 2pac, Johnny J not only produced songs on the Thug Life Vol 1 album but also the 2pac solo album "Me Against The World". Johnny J then followed 'Pac to Death Row and produced a majority of the certified diamond release "All Eyez On Me". He also produced the very controversal single "HitEmUp" as well as a number of unreleased 2pac songs.
"I produced 15 tracks for All Eyez On Me, but 11 ended up on the album. The left-over tracks ended up on soundtracks and other projects", Johnny J said in an interview. "'Pac called me after being out of jail for two or three days and said he needed me in the studio. So we just rolled! I came there with nothing but beats and we did probably like 6 or 7 songs a day. All in all, we probably did about 150 tracks together."
Johnny J released a solo album in 1995 titled "I Gotta Be Me". He has recently produced or scored music for movies like Blood Diamond, The Fan and The Big Hit.
Before 2pac died, him and Johnny J was about to start their own production company called NonStop Production (as noted on a lot of 2pac songs, i.e. HitEmUp). The duo was going to produce all kinds of music from RnB, Pop, Country to HipHop.
After 2pacs death, Johnny J has handeled production on most of the 'Pac releases on Amaru/Death Row. However, Amaru chose to go with more mainstream producers for the latest releases. This upset Johnny J whom in interviews has been going hard at Amaru. In Johnny J's opinion, producers that worked with 2pac and the original songs should be the ones that finalize or remix them.
Johnny J died on October 3rd, 2008. According to a number of reports, Jackson, who was incarcerated on a DUI charge, allegedly jumped from a tier in the prison resulting in his death, although the official cause of death has not been determined. What caused Johnny J to commit suicide is yet to be revealed. At the time of his death, a documentary was being shot about his life.
Throughout his career, Johnny J productions has sold about 100 million units around the world.
2) Mac Dre
From Vallejo California, Mac Dre was one of the most charismatic rappers alive, his goofy yet witty flow and hilarious yet thought provoking lyrics were one of a kind, he was the type of rapper who'd make you laugh then make you think at the same time. Mac Dre was apart of the Young Black Brotha label with other great artists such as Ray Luv, Mac Mall, & Young Lay. Mac Dre released a slew of great albums which range from Young Black Brotha to Stupid Doo Doo Dumb to Rapper Gone Bad. Mac Dre was a rapper who could take charge of situations and you know when Mac Dre was in charge because everything would be organized and sounding great like his Rompilation Compilations(The first one being an undeniable classic).
Mac Dre broke away from Young Black Brotha to persue his own ventures and that he did, he soon developed his own label and company called Thizz Entertainment and had great artists such as Rydah(Of the Mob Figaz) and The Cutthroat Committee. Mac Dre was taken away from us way too early and unfairly, he seemed to always have a good time at what he was doing and always made songs(Even the bad one's) sound enjoyable, you could feel the energy off him and it was always a positive vibe. Mac Dre has worked with some of the best in the Rap Industry: Warren G, The Luniz, Messy Marv, B-Legit, & many others. DJ Screw will forever be missed and never forgotten. Tragically he died in his studio to suspected overdose. As the years pass the legacy of DJ Screw is spreading across the south and to the rest of the US as well as the world. Like Screw said he wanted to "screw the whole world."

13) Mausberg
When I was looking for exact information about Mausberg, I found an article on DaveyD.com. It was written by Mausbergs friend Byze One. At first I thought I'd get some info out of it, but when I read it I thought it was something all Mausberg fans should read. It's kind of long, but worth reading.
Here it is:
I wanted to express to you and your readers a little something about Mausberg so that he isn't remembered as just another LA rapper fallen and then forgotten the next day. First of all, this young star was only 21 yrs old and about to take the rap game by storm before the Devil got in the way. Although most of you have never heard of Mausberg and some of you have from some of the cameo's he did. Here is a little information on some of the records Mausy had done so far.

If you have any of the records please check them out and then you'll hear the talent that he had for being a great emcee. And if you aren't convinced, wait until his album drops. Check for the single titled "Ring King" and listen to it blow you away!!!!!!
When I met Mausberg for the first time I was instantly convinced that he was going to be the Biggie of the West Coast. He was going to be the one that everyone from LA to NY was going to be feeling! He stood about 6 3' and about 275 pounds, dark, bald and always in a red shirt, black jeans and brown cowboy boots. He was always very polite, gentle and humble. He always had a smile on his face and he always had pleasant things to say to everyone. He was the one that would stand on the block and everyone around him would just sit there and look up to him. He was the neighborhood King and everyone in Compton knew that Mausberg was going to be the Biggie of the West Coast, because it was supposed to be that way!
He was the kind of kid that would go everywhere with Quik and I and he would just sit back in the cut and would study everyone and everything and after we would leave the place we were at he would pull my aside and ask mad questions about the music industry and the game. He was one of those guys that got it, he was the one that was going know how to run his own career and run shit properly. He was patient and he was very intelligent.
He was always ready to hit the studio and always dropping gems over incredible tracks by Quik. The kind of tracks that you would not even expect from Quik. These tracks were tailor made for Mausy and he killed everyone of them 1 by 1. As a matter of fact, the only night that they weren't in the studio was the night of his senseless murder.
Monday July 3rd around 10:45PM was the last time I myself saw Mausberg alive in physical form. He had paged me to invite me to the studio were he and Quik were finishing a few tracks for his upcoming album. I came through about 45 minutes later and after a pound pound and our usual blunt session we sat down to talkxabout what we were gonna do to them when this album ropped.
He was so excited about the songs Quik was mixing and you could see it on his face. Tonight Mausberg was happy and he couldn't wait to take the rap world over!!!!! After about an hour I had to step so I gave him a pound/hug and said "Aight Mausy, I'ma see you tomorrow" and he said, "Fa Sho My Nigga, Be safe"
On the day of July 4, 2000 Mausberg was home all day and on that evening he was home studying his DMV handbook because he was tired of being taxi-ed around and was about to get himself a car very soon. He was home until about 12:45AM before he walked out the front door of his apartment for the last time. What happened next is very very sad and was very unnecessary as Mausberg was shot twice and he taken from us all and the world was left without hearing the illest emcee take over alive!!!
The next morning most of the industry was paged by LA's Big Boy/KPWR around 7am with a message that read "MAUSBERG OF DJ QUIK'S CAMP WAS KILLED THIS MORNING IN COMPTON".
When I saw my pager I was still groggy and sleepy. I looked at what it said again and dropped my pager. I really could not believe that this was true, that this page was right. Unfortunately, the news was true and Johnny Burns was not going to get his turn to take the world over with his powerful lyrics, charisma and style...
We are all so very crushed by what happened to our little brother and we are all hurt, but we are all still behind Johnny Burns and you will hear his album and you will memorize his lyrics because you want to...because he is Mausberg the Superior/You never heard of a more wickeder nigga coming outta the urban area/...
Last night we all gathered at Quik's house and celebrated Mausy's life with the crew and his mother and sister. The party was so live you almost forgot that we were there to remember him. He was definetly there in spirit, in love and was still smiling down on all of us.
The best part of the evening was seeing his mother rapping all of his lyrics to "Shut Up" into the video camera. As she held up the picture of her son to the camera and resited the last verse of his song and then said, "This is my baby boy right here"...
Mausberg, we miss you big homey but we aint gonna let them not hear you, your powerful voice and your more powerful music...We got your back Mausy, in a real way!!!!
14) Seagram
Seagram Miller was the first westcoast MC to sign to the down south linked label Rap-A-Lot Records .The same record label that Geto boys, Scarface and Do or die are on .In his lifetime he did 3 solo albums. You can’t say that any of his albums hit worldwide. He’s also featured on Scarface's Me and my homies album with the dope track “Sleeping in my Nikesâ€Â. Seagram also worked with rappers like Spice-1, Bushwick and Yukmouth. The first time I heard Seagram were when he was on the Geto Boys track called “Bring it onâ€Â, and when I heard that track I realized that Seag really can spit some mad hardcore lyrics and he’s going to be missed in the rap game. Seagram was killed in Oakland July 1996 by an unknown gunman.
