a 40 gb hd is tiny but if u don't wana buy a new hd maybe burn some data dvd's to keep ur music/files/porn/mov/ect it sounds like ur comp is kinda outdated. hd's of 100 gb arnt that expensive now just a thought

u can't get more space by deleting shit, but you gotta buy more harddrive memory to get a bigger amoutn of space. it's relatively cheap now
