"MISSY ELLIOTT TALKS SHARK TALE" INTERVIEWS:
Missy Elliott is an institution within the realm of pop music. Now she's breaking into film (okay, okay, hold your horses, we didn't forget that she had a bit part in the cult hit Pootie Tang back in 2001) via DreamWorks new animated undersea fable Shark Tale
Not only will she be rendered as a vibrant, outspoken sea creature, but she also pops up on the soundtrack reworking the classic Rose Royce disco funk jam "Car Wash" with her old pal Christina Aguilera (devout musicologists will remember that they teamed up for a reworking of the Labelle classic "Lady Marmalade" back in 2001).
Here's a quick interview with Missy about how the song came about, what it was like working with Aguilera, and how cool it was to become an animated fish.
Q: How fun was it remaking "Car Wash" with Christina Aguilera?
Missy Elliott: The name of song that I'm contributing is Sharks Tale its called Car Wash and it's performed by Rose Royce in the 70s in um you know it's an old record that me and Christina are remakin so it should be a lot of fun cause its one of those records that used to be one of those happy cook , whatever kind of records that you mother and father used to know about. So we gonna have a lot of fun doing it
Q: How exactly did you get involved with the project in the first place?
Missy Elliott: How I got involved with the project was Jeffrey Katzenberg he reached out to me and we went to LA and saw a lot of the footage for Sharks Tale. And once he told Will Smith was gonna be a part of it, I knew it was gonna be a box, box, box, a real box office hit.
So um, I decided that I wanted to get involved with it. Plus I liked the footage that he showed me. I thought the animated cartoon was hot.
Q: What was it like the first time you saw your animated fish counterpart?
Missy Elliott: I saw my animated fish and actually I thought my animated fish was kind of funny. Cause it had the same lips that I got, those lips was like real, real huge. It's was kind of funny, you just gotta see it. Its real crazy to see a fish with some big lips.
Q: Being a creative individual yourself, what's your take on the animation in Shark Tale?
Missy Elliott: After Jeffrey showed me the footage for Sharks Tale, I'm really into it now. I hadn't been into it before. You know, I've, always liked cartoons, but I hadn't been into animation. So After I seeing those 2, I was like, yo, that's hot.
