SNOOP DOGG LIFE AND CAREER TIMELINE

 
20 Oct 1972:  Snoop Doggy Dogg was born Calvin Broadus on October 20, 1972 in California. He acquired his nickname from his mother after the famous cartoon dog. Snoop's conflicts with the law began during his late teens when he was a member of the Crips street gang and arrested for cocaine possession and spent some time in jail.

5 Jun 1990:  Snoop is convicted on felony narcotic possession charge, for trying to sell cocaine.

Dec 1992:  Snoop makes his official debut as he appears on Dr. Dre's The Chronic, which featured his most notable performance on the No. 1 hit "Nuthin But a G Thang." Dr Dre, was taken by Snoop's style, and the two formed what would become a lasting musical bond.

21 Jul 1993:  During a 'random' traffic stop, Snoop's car is searched and a firearm is discovered.

25 Aug 1993:  Phillip Woldemariam shot and killed. Snoop ("accomplice after the fact") and bodyguard McKinley Lee are both charged. Woldemariam allegedly flashed a gang sign at the two earlier that day.

Sep 1993:  Snoop Dogg makes his solo debut with his album release 'Doggystyle'. The earlier arrest certainly strengthened the basis of his lyrics, and it helped his debut album, become the first debut album to enter the charts at number one, and the statistics were staggering: It was the first debut album to enter The Billboard 200 chart at No. 1, and it received advance orders in excess of 1.5 million units.

20 Feb 1996:  Snoop and McKinley Lee acquitted on manslaughter and murder charges in the 1993 Woldemariam slaying. Attorney: Johnny Cochran.

20 Feb 1996:  Snoop releases his second album, 'The DoggFather' three years after the first amist many problems with the law.

21 Mar 1997:  Sentenced to 3 years probation and fined $1000 for firearms violation (felon in possession of a handgun which was found in his car, when he was stopped for a traffic violation.)

16 Jan 1998:  Snoop Dogg appears in film Half Baked.

March 27, 1998:  Snoop Dogg appears in film 'Ride'.

1998:  Snoop releases his third album, 'Da Game is to be Sold Not Told'.

May 1998:  Arrested in California, marijuana possession.

1999:  Snoop Dogg appears in film 'Urban Menace' with fellow rapper Ice-T.

1999:  Snoop Dogg appears in film 'The Wrecking Crew' again with fellow rapper Ice-T.

1999:  Snoop releases his forth album, 'No Limit Top Dogg'.

1999:  Snoop Dogg appears in film 'Hot Boyz'.

2000:  Snoop releases his fifth album, 'Snoop Dogg Presents Tha Eastsidaz'.

2000:  Snoop Dogg appears in film 'Tha Eastsidaz' alongside his homies Tray Deee, Goldie Loc, Darryl Brunson, Warren G.

2000:  Snoop releases his sixth album, 'Dead Man Walking'.

2000:  Snoop releases his seventh album, third of the year, with 'Tha Last Meal', a classic in its own right, it has to be said!

Feb 2001:  In collaboration with Hustler, releases a rap/porn video for Doggystyle (six full videos, and hardcore scenes interspersed.)

May 2001:  Fined $398.30 for marijuana possession, Ohio.

2001:  Snoop releases the album 'Eastsidaz - Duces 'N Trayz: The Old Fashioned Way ', with his group 'Tha Eastsidaz'!

June 27, 2001:  Snoop Dogg appears in film 'Baby Boy' alongside Tyrese Gibson, Omar Gooding, A.J. Johnson, Taraji Henson.

October 5, 2001:  Snoop Dogg appears in film 'The Wash' alongside fellow rapper and friend Dr. Dre, and Angell Conwell, Tom "Tiny" Lister Jr and DJ Pooh.

November 14, 2001:  Snoop Dogg appears in what will be arguably his best movie with 'Training Day' alongside acclaimed actors Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, and also fellow rapper and friend Dr. Dre.

22 Aug 2002:  In an interview with Black Entertainment Television, Snoop Dogg declares that he has given up weed and alcohol: "The sharpest move I made as a business man: I stopped smoking and drinking. That was the sharpest move I could've possibly made... I been leading niggas off the cliff for 5-6 years. Driving the car with a gang of niggas [like], 'C'mon, let's go,'" he said as he emulated a car revving its engine and going over a cliff.

June 27, 2001:  Snoop Dogg appears in film 'Baby Boy' alongside Tyrese Gibson, Omar Gooding, A.J. Johnson, Taraji Henson.

2002:  Snoop releases his seventh album, third of the year, with 'Paid Tha Cost To Be Da Boss', featuring collabs with N.E.R.D dtar 'Pharrel Williams'.

10 Apr 2003:  Shooting incident in Los Angeles, CA. He is not harmed, but two cars were struck and bodyguard McKinley Lee sustained injury.

April 18th, 2003:  Snoop Dogg appears in film 'Malibus Most Wanted'.

March 5th, 2004:  Snoop Dogg lands a big part in film 'Starsky & Hutch' alongside highly acclaimed actors Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, potentially Snoop's best film appearance alongside 'Training Day'.

May 28th, 2004:  Snoop Dogg has a main part in the Hip Hop movie 'Soul Plane' alongside fellow rappers Method Man, Lil' Jon, Kaine, and Big Sam.

May 2004:  Snoop Dogg hosted Saturday Night Live.

August 2004:  The video for "Holidae In" was nominated for a MTV Video Music Award including Best Hip-Hop Video. Snoop joined forces with Warren G and Nate Dogg to form 213 and released The Hard Way.

October 2004:  Snoop topped the Billboard R&B;/Hip-Hop Singles Sales chart with "Drop It Like It's Hot."

November 2004:  Snoop topped the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart, R&B;/Hip-Hop Singles Sales chart, Hot R&B;/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, and Hot R&B;/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart for 7 weeks with "Drop It Like It's Hot." Snoop hit the Top 40 with "Drop It Like It's Hot." Snoop released R&G; (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece.

December 2004:  Snoop topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for 3 weeks and Hot 100 Airplay chart with "Drop It Like It's Hot." Snoop hit the Top 10 with "Drop It Like It's Hot." R&G; (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece was certified platinum. # 244 on the Top Pop Artists of the Past 25 Years chart.

January 2005:  Snoop Dogg hit the Top 40 with "Let's Get Blown."

February 2005:  Snoop hit the Top 40 with "Signs" featuring Charlie Wilson and Justin Timberlake. Snoop was nominated for 2 Grammy Awards for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group and Best Rap Song (awarded to the songwriter) ("Drop It Like It's Hot" with Pharrell). The single "Drop It Like It's Hot" was certified platinum.

March 2005:  Snoop hit the Top 10 with "Signs."

June 2005:  The single "Signs" was certified gold.

July 2005:  On July 2nd, Snoop performed in London, England, as part of the worldwide Live 8 concerts. The mission of the concerts was to raise awareness of the on-going poverty in Africa and to pressure the G8 leaders to take action by doubling aid, canceling debt, and delivering trade justice for Africa.

August 2005:  The video for "Drop It Like It's Hot" was nominated for 3 MTV Video Music Awards including Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Video, and Viewer's Choice.

November 2005:  Snoop won a MTV Europe Awards for Best Hip-Hop Artist.

December 2005:  Snoop could be heard on The Notorious B.I.G. posthumous creation - Duets: The Final Chapter.

April 2006:  Snoop hit the Top 40 helping out Mariah Carey with "Say Somethin'" from her LP The Emancipation Of Mimi. Snoop was arrested in London after a brawl broke out at the airport when member's of his entourage were not allowed to board the plane.

October 2006:  Snoop was arrested in California on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a gun and transporting marijuana.

November 2006:  Snoop hit the Top 40 helping out Akon with "I Wanna Love You." Snoop released Blue Carpet Treatment and later in the month performed at the American Music Awards alongside Akon.
